City Race 2017

The Fifth Cambridge City Race, an urban course around the streets of Cambridge, took place on the 28th October 2017. The race itself was open not only to CUOC members and Cambridge students but to the general public, which led to over 200 people participating! The courses themselves varied in length, ranging from 1.7km for the juniors to 7.2km for the Men’s Open. A full list of the available courses can be found here.

The colleges involved this year included Newnham, Downing and accommodation owned by Gonville and Caius, and thus offered a ‘unique’ way of touring around them! An added challenge to orienteers involved not only navigating around the city, but also navigating around the sheer number of people on the streets that day.

The ‘roaming photographer’ Liam had made his pictures available via this linkPost City Race formal, as well as the club's Twitter and Instagram pages.

Congratulations to Joel Taylor, Imogen Pieters, Thomas Bartram, Chloë Cracknell, Aiden Rigby, Charlotte Ward, Nigel Bunn, Karen French, Brian Ward, Janet Rosen, Robin Smith, Sheila Carey, Colin Best and Ruth Rhodes for coming top of their respective categories. CUOC’s highest placed finishers were Aidan Rigby (1st on Men's Open) and Fiona Bunn (2nd on Women's Open).

Finally, a huge thank you to the planner Paul Pružina, organiser Jonathan Mortlock and controller Simon Errington, without whom the City Race would not have gone as successfully – many thanks also to everyone who took part, hope you come back next time!
