The time is almost upon us for perhaps the most excitement one can get in an odd-numbered year in the East of England: the Cambridge City Race. Whether Cambridge is unexplored territory for you, or merely hearing the name resurfaces dreadful memories of exam term ’57, there is no better way to see the historic architecture than on foot, with a map.
We are delighted to welcome you to the 2025 Cambridge City Race! The event will take place on 1 November. This year’s course will take you through up to six colleges as well as several of the university’s faculty sites.
Entries are now closed, there are no entries on the day. Entry List
The event assembly will be located at the Newnham Scout and Guide Centre, Chedworth Street, Cambridge, CB3 9JF. Toilet facilities and a bag drop are both located here.
Race bibs must be visibly worn by competitors at all time during their courses, as this will let marshals know to allow you access to colleges and private areas which are marked as accessible on the map. Bib pickup will be at assembly; please arrive in plenty of time to pick up your bib before you head to the start. Please remember to bring safety pins.
Please do not attempt to drive to assembly. There is no parking at assembly and on-the-street parking in the surrounding residential area is forbidden during the time of the event. Your best options are listed below.
Cambridge is well served by train connections to London and further afield. Assembly is 2.4km from Cambridge train station.
Cambridge’s elaborate park and ride system offers 5 different routes into the city centre, depending on your direction of approach. We recommend this for those travelling by car. Please consult: https://cambridgeparkandride.info/trumpington.shtml
Get off at the Botanical Gardens stop, and then it is a 1km walk to assembly via the Fen Causeway.
All other routes approach the city centre from different directions. The central bus station is approximately a 2km walk from assembly.
The nearest car park is the Lammas Land Car Park, CB3 9PA. We do not recommend this as a good option; it only has 75 spaces and will likely be busy on a Saturday morning.
The next nearest car park is the Grand Arcade car park, Corn Exchange Street, Cambridge CB2 3QF, approximately 1.5km from assembly. This will probably also be very busy on a Saturday morning.
The start window is 10:00–12:00, with courses closing at 14:00. We will not be posting specific start times, please adhere to the start block you selected in entries.
There will be two starts: red start for courses 1–5 and blue start for courses 6–8. Courses 1–6 are for 16+ only, in compliance with road crossing rules.
Red Start: 1.4km
Blue Start: 300m
Maps of the route shown in assembly and marked by tape.
There are two finishes, one for courses 1-5 (approximately 800m from assembly) and another for courses 6-8 (approximately 300m from assembly).
Courses close at 14:00. Remember to download after you finish.

We have worked very hard to gain permissions for the colleges and uni sites used in this race. The continued support of colleges allows this race to take place. These permissions are granted with the understanding that participants will behave appropriately, and a failure to do so will severely jeopardise our ability to hold this event in the future.
In particular, please take note of features that must not be crossed. This includes jumping uncrossable walls, flowerbeds and lawns. Many colleges adhere to a strict keep off the grass rule – please respect olive green and DO NOT CUT CORNERS.
All participants will be wearing numbered bibs and the numbers of any participants not adhering to Out Of Bounds (OOB) will be noted and disqualified.
YOU MUST DOWNLOAD EVEN IF YOU ABANDON YOUR RACE.
COMPETITORS TAKE PART AT THEIR OWN RISK AND ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY.
Shoes: no metal dobs or spikes, trainers recommended. The majority of the area is paved, but some areas of grass or rough open. Shorts and vests are legal.
First aid will be available at assembly. Please make contact with a high-vized race official if you require first aid treatment.
The nearest hospital with an A&E department is Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Hills Road, Cambridge, CB2 0QQ.
In the event of a serious injury during your run and require immediate attention, please seek the help of a college Porter at any college Porters’ Lodge. Porters are first-aid trained and will be able to contact the organiser via the phone number given on the map.
Thank you to the colleges and uni sites that have very kindly granted us access for the day. Thank you also to the many CUOC, DrongO and WAOC volunteers who have helped make this event happen!
CUOC would like to thank Dik Ng for agreeing to take photos at the event.
